Valley Resident, Oscar-Winner Wyman Dies

(AP) – Actress Jane Wyman — first wife of Ronald Reagan — died Monday at her Palm Springs home.

Wyman won an Oscar as the deaf rape victim in “Johnny Belinda.

She also starred in the TV series “Falcon Crest.”

Richard Adney of Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Cathedral City says Wyman died Monday morning at home.

Wyman’s age was listed as 93 in several reference books. Sources including the official family Web site say she was 90.

Wyman’s film career spanned the 1930s until 1969’s “How to Commit Marriage.”

From 1981 to 1990 she played Angela Channing, a Napa Valley winery owner on “Falcon Crest.”

In 1940, Wyman married Reagan. The couple divorced in 1948, the year she won the award for “Johnny Belinda.”

The pair’s son Michael Reagan says Wyman was “the classiest lady to ever grace the silver screen.”

A public funeral Mass will be scheduled this week at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert.

Private interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
