Child Believed To Be In Vehicle Stolen In Whittier

A year-old boy who was in a van that was stolen in Whittier was found safe about three hours later in West Los Angeles late Friday morning, authorities said.

The child was taken about 8 a.m. near Pierce Avenue and Philadelphia Street, when Angel Irizarry’s father left him in the van, with its engine running, to run inside their residence, said Whittier police Officer Diana Salazar.

Authorities quickly issued an Amber Alert, asking for the public to be on the lookout for the child and the white 1993 Dodge van.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the van and child were found in the Mar Vista area, and the youngster appeared to be OK, according to the California Highway Patrol. The suspect remained at large.
