City Council To Discuss COD Palm Springs Campus

The Palm Springs City Council will consider at Wednesday’s council meeting approving an agreement to negotiate with the College of the Desert regarding a 115-acre site for a western Coachella Valley campus.

The proposed campus site is located on public land at the northwest corner of Tramview Road west of Indian Canyon Drive and would have to be acquired through the Bureau of Land Management, according to the staff report.

The agreement would commit the city to work on the development of a campus at the proposed site and commit the college to the location as well as to developing a campus master plan, according to the report.

On Sept. 21, the college’s Board of Trustees chose Palm Springs over Desert Hot Springs for the site of its western Coachella Valley campus.

Following the announcement, college President Jerry Patton said ground for the campus was not expected to be broken for several years.
