Thousands Gather For The White Party Weekend

Thousands of gay men will be in Palm Springs this weekend for the “White Party.”

The weekend features pool parties, music and dancing.

Over 20,000 people from all across the country gather to celebrate the White Party weekend.

The city pulls in over a million dollars in revenue from the weekend.

It’s normally held easter weekend.

This year organizers changed the dates because easter was so early.

Jeffrey Sankar, President of the White Party said holding the event a little later this year is working out great.

“The weather is better and i think it falls after the Dihna Shore, Nabisco weekend and so it’s a better thing for the city,” said Sankar.

Over 12,000 are booked at the Wydham and other hotels throughout the valley are also full.

Some stay as far out as the east valley.

“We have almost the entire Hilton sold out, we have every guest house on Warm Sands row sold out and there’s so many home rentals, people who rent homes, and they’re sold out,” Sankar said Friday.

Hotel spending is just some of the money the weekend generates for the city.

The party usually nets over a million for Palm Springs.

Those we spoke to said they spend over a thousand dollars for their weekend trip and they say it’s worth every penny.

Events run through sunday night.

Single day tickets are around $100.

Tickets for the whole weekend are around $300.
