Former Palm Springs PD Chief Jeandron Among Candidates

Four Democrats are seeking their party’s nomination in the 80th Assembly District in today’s primary, with the winner facing former Palm Springs Police Chief Gary Jeandron in the November general election.

The Democratic field consists of Cathedral City City Councilman Greg Pettis, Coachella Valley Unified School District board member Victor Manuel Perez, Rick Gonzalez of Calexico and Richard Gutierrez, an orthodontist from El Centro.

Jeandron is running unopposed for the Republican nomination, seeking to succeed Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, R-Cathedral City, who is barred from seeking re-election because of term limits.

Democrats hold a 46 percent-36 percent registration lead in what could be one of the state’s most competitive general election Assembly races.

The 80th Assembly District encompasses Imperial County and parts of the Coachella Valley from Palm Springs to Blythe.
