Man Who Ran From Deadly Thousand Palms Car Crash Identified

The California Highway Patrol Wednesday named a 20-something man who may have been driving a Ford Mustang that crashed in Thousand Palms, killing a man on Thursday.

Gregorio Herrera Torres, who also goes by Juan Sanchez Torres, is believed to have run from the single-car crash on Dillion Road near Thousand Palms Canyon about 9:45 that night, CHP Officer Ramon Perez said.

Roberto Torres, 27, of Thermal, died at the scene. It was unclear if he was related to the suspected driver.

Two female passengers, 18 and 19, suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, about 5 foot 7 inches and 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with more information was asked to the CHP at (760) 772-8900.
