Bad Weather = Good Business At Body Shops

“We have been steadily busy all year long. All through the summer we’re busy. We’re busy now and it’s getting busier.”

Carl Richmond has been a mechanic for 40 years. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but auto body shops are seeing more and more cars rolling in for repair work.

“There was an accident in front of the shop and a couple of cars were totaled,” Richmond recalls. “Nobody was hurt, luckily, but accidents happen.”

Auto body shops across the valley say its not just weather affecting business, but the economy also is helping.

“People are more concerned right now about keeping the car they have and not jumping out and buying a new one. But they want their cars fixed and they want it done right and that’s a wise move.”

Now, car owners realize the value of long-term ownership and are paying to repair their cars.

Richmond says a well-maintained car will give you more bang for your buck in the long run. And what you see on the outside can mean all the difference.

“Keeping up the outside of the car is very important. It has everything to do with what your car is really worth. You can take your car to trade it in and if it has a scratch in the bumper it’s going to cost you an awful lot of money on your depreciation.”
