Morongo Valley Girl Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver Dies

MORONGO VALLEY – Less than a day after an auto-pedestrian hit-and-run on Highway 62, the two-year-old girl struck by a white pick-up has died at a hospital, a child’s relative said.

The child, Breonna Nichols, died of her injuries, according to the girl’s grandmother, at Loma Linda University Medical Center Tuesday afternoon after being struck and left at the side of the highway in Morongo Valley.

California Highway Patrol said the collision happened on the 62 near Valley View Road at 7:42 p.m. Monday.

Officers Nichols wandered from her home nearby and ran into the path of the white pick-up truck, which was moving at about 65 miles per hour.

The child was struck and landed on the side of the highway. The truck immediately fled the area.

Several drivers and residents stopped to aid Breonna while awaiting paramedics. She was transported by Mercy Air to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where she later died.

CHP urges anyone with information on the hit-and-run to call the Morongo Basin Highway Patrol office at 760-366-3707.
