Keeping Neighborhood Lawns Green

DESERT HOT SPRINGS – Foreclosed homes and their neglected lawns are creating eye sores throughout the valley, but a new program is helping out and saving neighborhoods.

The Coachella Valley Coalition is launching its residential rescue program to keep neighborhoods looking good. The program saves plants and trees at homes where water service had been turned off due to foreclosure or abandonment.

On Saturday morning the CVC held a demonstration of the new program in Desert Hot Springs, where they watered 20 homes. A team of volunteers maintain a regular schedule of watering to prevent lawns from drying up and turning brown.

“It costs about 50 dollars to rent the water truck for an hour. We are low on funds and we’re just a grassroots organization,” say Jack Meyers, CVC. ” We would really appreciate any donations.”

Through this program the CVC hopes to protect neighborhoods and the property value of homes. For information on how you can help out, email coachellavalleycoalition@hotmail.com
