DHS Neighborhoods Shaken By Gunfire

DESERT HOT SPRINGS – The search is on for the suspects in two separate shootings that took place early Sunday morning, both happened in Desert Hot Springs just about a mile apart from each other.

The first was around one in morning, the other about an hour later. A total of five victims were taken to Desert Regional Hospital.

Police say a fight broke out at a party early Sunday morning. One person was shot and two others were badly beaten, but the violence didn’t stop there.

The first shooting took place on Second Street between West and Cactus. When police got on scene they heard another round of shots a few blocks away. When they got to Peirson and Verbena, police found two men with gunshot wounds.

“There is always trouble,” says one neighbor who does not want to be identified.

Some people who live in the area say they’re not surprised by the early morning ciaos.

“I have been here for 30 years and I have seen it all- drugs, gang members,” says another neighbor.

One man who is new to the neighborhood says he moved to the area from LA, thinking he was getting away from the violence.

“We were looking for a good neighborhood. It seems quiet here, but now I feel scared,” says the neighbor.

Police say one of the shooters is described as a 19-year-old white male, about 5’11”, with a thin build and spiked reddish hair. Police are still investigating wether the two shootings are related.
