Police Search For Woman’s Attacker

A woman was hospitalized with serious injuries she suffered when she was assaulted today in her home, and a search was under way for her ex-husband, police said.

The victim was found in the 69100 block of Converse Road around 8:30 a.m. and taken to Eisenhower Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition, said Sgt. Corwin de Veas of the Cathedral City Police Department.

Manuel Gambino, who is suspected in the assault, is the subject of an active restraining order obtained by the victim, de Veas said.

The suspect was described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and around 200 pounds, with a shaved head, goatee and brown eyes, and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.

Gambino pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery in 2005, according to court records.
