Palm Springs Encouraging Residents To Go Green
PALM SPRINGS – The City of Palm Springs is going green and they want you to do the same.As part of the”YourSustainableCity” celebration, Wednesday nightelectric cars were featured during the neighborhood rally at City Hall.
The events sponsored by KESQ News Channel 3 are aimed at providing residents green solutions for everyday problems. At the Electric Car and Neighborhood Rally close to a dozen electric vehicles owned by Coachella Valley businesses were on display.Attendees hada chance to test driver everything from full size electric cars to small carts, even onewith solar panel on the roof.
Amy Costello drove her fully electric scooter to the event.Costello says, “I get 40 miles per charge, I can charge it at home so I don’t have the gasoline cost.” The electric golf cart like vehicles use 1/10th the energy of a full size vehicle. On a three hour charge you can go60 miles andreach speeds up to 20 miles per hour. The average in price fora high-end model will run you $9,000.
The city is also encouraging its residents to go green at home. During the event the city gave away compact fluorescent light bulbs, water saving aerators and a solar light tube.
