Evicted Disabled Senior Helped By News Channel 3 Viewers
DESERT HOT SPRINGS – Neighbors worked together, loading up a large van in Desert Hot Springs, emptyinga house that belonged to Myrna Blanc. She is disabled from a car crash and can hardly walk.
We first showed you in August how she was being evicted from her home. She made a bad decision and signed a variable rate mortgage to pay for medical expenses.
“Here, I’m completely broke. I’m really caught between a rock and hard place and I’ve got nowhere to go,” Blanc told News Channel 3 in August.
Her neighbors saw our story and decided to help. They donated their time, their money, and their hopes for Myrna.
Neighbor Michael Townsend says while helping Blanc move, “If I’m in that position, I hope somebody helps me. That’s all you can do.”
Warehouse furniture truck driver Michael Townsend answers, “I actually saw it on the news. I guess my boss saw it too. He wanted to dedicate our services to help her out.”
Councilman Russell Betts helped get the banks off Myrna’s back and found her a new home.
“We’ve ended up here at senior assisted living project. Fortunately. It was the only thing that would work for us. We got lucky. They’ve been very good to work with. We ended up guaranteeing the rent and saw she had a place to stay,” says Betts.
Much happier than our last meeting in August, Myrna Blanc tells us, “It’s been wonderful. I have a new lease on life. It’s your coverage that did this. I’m just very appreciative.”
