Man Arrested For Nearly Running Down CHP Officer In Thermal

THERMAL – Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Thermal man, and plan to charge him with attempted murder of a peace officer for nearly running down a California Highway Patrol officer over the weekend.

Investigators say they arrested 19 year old Juan Manuel Felix Borboa on Sunday, just hours afterthe incident early Sunday morning.

Witnesses tell police a large group of vehicles had gathered inan area of Thermal. When officersgot there, the vehicles sped off. ACHP unit followed several vehicles on Jackson, where one driver was pulled over for a traffic violation.

Asthe officer was writing up a ticket, another vehiclesped up,heading righttoward the officer, almost hitting him. The officer fired several shots at the vehicle as it drove off. No one was injured.

The area was closed off for several hoursfor the investigationwhich has been taken over by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
