Miss California USA Pageant Comes To The Valley
The Miss California USA pageant is coming to the desert. It’s bringing a lot of change, feeding of the past year’s controversy.
“I never expected to get the title how I did,” says Miss California USA, Tami Farrell.
Runner up, Tami Farrel was crowned Miss California after Carrie Prejean was de-throned for “contract violations.”
“There was a lot of controversy, but everything happens for a reason,” says Farrell.
“Mr. Trump says, all press is good press,” says Miss California USA/Miss California Teen Executive Director, Keith Lewis.
Mr. Trump was right, this year’s pageant is larger and more modern than ever. For the first time in nearly 20 years it will be televised live and it’s happening here in the valley at Aqua Caliente Resort and Spa.
“I love everything they are doing,” says Farrell.
They’re doing away with the standard sashes and the matching bathing suits.
“We are going for a runway, Victoria Secret type show,” says Lewis. ” The swimsuits will have individual accessories – everything from thigh-high boots, belts and chunky jewelery.”
However, the biggest change this year is that two lucky ladies will win the title.
“Since what happened last year, we should probably have a back up, right?” says Farrell.
Yet, the pageant’s executive director won’t say if that’s really the reason for two winners.
“You’ll have to tune in to see,” says Lewis.
Despite the swirling controversy, the Miss California pageant is growing. With the event taking place here in the desert, our local businesses will be in the spotlight.
“We filled the Riviera, we’ll fill the Aqua Caliente and we will fill other hotels in the area,” says Lewis. ” This is a million dollar event for Palm Springs.”
So this year, it looks like the two Miss California’s will share their crown with the valley, making it three big winners.
