Border Agents Score Another Drug Bust On Hwy 86
INDIO – Sixty-four bundles of marijuana were seized in a routine sweep of a vehicle on the highway 86 checkpoint for U.S. Border Patrol.
Agents say their canine team alerted them to a possible drug hit in the bed area of a pick-up truck. Inside, agents found the bundles of marijuana, weighing 400 pounds, and worth $300,000.
The driver of the pick-up, a legal resident of the United States, was taken into custody by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
According to El Centro Sector, Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey Calhoon, “This is a testament of Border Patrol’s effectiveness,” he said. “It shows how our checkpoints are a valuable tool when it comes to establishing a second line of defense for stemming the flow of dangerous narcotics into our country.”
