DESERT HOT SPRINGS- It’s being called ‘Home for the Holidays.’ another clean and safe option for the less fortunate during this holiday season in the Coachella Valley.

Hebuys and fixes foreclosed homes in the valley. He was presented an award by Desert Hot Springs mayor Yvonne Parks for his efforts to rehabilitate those homes and offer them to low-income renters.

“As you can see if you take a look at the before pictures of this and today see what it looks like and this is what we want to do with all of our substandard housing,” Parks said.

This is one of many foreclosed homes that has been rebuilt. The mayor says it’s just a small step in revitalizing the city.

“We are currently in the process of a restabilization and renewal projects. Some are just façade improvements, lawns, painting and that kind of thing. Others absolutely taking and cleaning the inside, putting new roofs and air conditioning and that kind of thing,” said Parks.

“People need to be proud of where they live and if they don’t get a hot shower in the morning before they get ready to go to work or school, it affects them during the day…if they have a nice starting point in the morning when they leave to go throughout their day, they’re going to have a better day and they’re going to have a more productive day,” said Verdugo.
