La Quinta Sam’s Club Location Closing Jan. 22

LA QUINTA -More than a hundred people have been told they’re losing their jobs.

Sam’s Club has confirmed to News Channel 3 that its La Quinta store on Highway 111 is shutting down in less than 2 weeks.

A spokesperson says, in a meeting Sunday night with employees, the company revealed that the store will close Friday, January 22nd. The pharmacy will remain open until January 25th.

That means 112 full and part-time employees will be looking for work.

Sam’s Club tells News Channel 3 the company will offer employees 60 days pay and 7 weeks of benefits.

A pair of job fairs will be held at Sam’s Club to help employees possibly find jobs at other Sam’s Club or Walmart stores. Employees say they were not guaranteed jobs at other locations. The job fairs will be held January 14 and 21.

Employees were told the closure was brought on by the store “losing money.” The spokesperson says the closure will not affect the Sam’s Club store in Palm Desert.
