Footprint Helps Police Identify ‘Kick-In’ Burglar

DESERT HOT SPRINGS – A burglar known for kicking in doors in Desert Hot Springs has been caught, according to Desert Hot Springs police.

Detectives say they received several calls around the city, reporting kicked in doors, household items taken, and one car stolen.

At one of the locations, they found a footprint, which they say helped them identify one of the suspects involved.

Palm Springs Police found the stolen car with Tracey August at the wheel. A second suspect got away.

DHS police took custody of August and matched his shoe print to the footprint found at one of the scenes.

August was interviewed and admitted to committing the three burglaries. A second suspect has been identified.Police are withholding his name at this time because he is a juvenile. He is not yet in custody but we expect he will be soon.
