Wind Advisory Kicks Off Change In Weather
PALM DESERT -A wind advisory is now in effect for the Coachella Valley until 4am Thursday. Gusts could reach 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service, with westerly winds 20 to 30 mph.
A series of storms will bring more clouds along with cooling wind, and periods of rain. Snow can be expected at the higher elevations.
Jamie Meier of the National Weather Service says the front dumped up to three-quarters of an inch of rain in Ventura County before dawn Wednesday, but only a fraction of an inch in the Los Angeles area.
No major problems were reported, although there was a rash of fender-benders during the morning commute.
Meier says it will be dry in the afternoon but blustery winds could develop. Mountains could see 45-mph gusts in the afternoon and up to 60 mph at night.
There’s also a coastal flood watch because of 15-foot surf along the Central Coast. Waves of 10 to 12 feet are possible along west-facing beaches in Los Angeles County.
Local strong gusty onshore winds will develop Wednesday afternoon and night, mainly in the mountains and high deserts. The winds will turn offshore Thursday and Friday with gusty winds through and below mountain canyons and passes.
