Rep. Bono Mack Launches Campaign To Block Gitmo Detainees
PALM SPRINGS – Rep. Mary Bono Mack has launched an online petition drive aimed at keeping detainees at Guantanamo Bay’s facility off U.S. soil. More specifically, she is looking to keep them away from California.
The petition, which is listed on her campaign website, calls on President Obama to sign legislation that would send the detainees somewhere else, noting she doesn’t want terrorists on U.S. soil.
“We have seven days left to add signatures to this important petition. Your signature and the signature of your family and friends will send a clear message to the Administration that GITMO detainees are not welcomed in our State.
“Since November, over a thousand Californians have signed their name to this important document. These signees agree that housing notorious terrorists on U.S. soil needlessly endangers our citizens, our families, and our communities.
“The Administration and Leadership in Washington continue to de-prioritize National Security and ignore legislative attempts to secure the homeland and prevent the proliferation of terrorism throughout the World. Once again, I am calling on Speaker Pelosi to bring H.R. 2214, the “Keep Terrorists Out of America Act”, to the floor of the House for debate. I am also urging House Leadership to consider H.R. 4490, which will require the President to seek Congressional approval before transferring GITMO detainees.”
