Blizzard Sweeps Eastern United States; Closes Airports
WASHINGTON -The snowy and windy weather is too much for even the snow plows.
In Washington, D.C. and some nearby suburbs, driving conditions are so bad that officials have pulled plows off the roads.
One highway official in Maryland says as soon as the plows come through, the wind is blowing the snow back onto the road.
The plows had been on the road for days in the Washington area, Philadelphia and Baltimore, after nearly three feet of snow fell in some areas last weekend.
The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings today that extended into New York City, where 10 to 16 inches could fall.
Dulles Airport, near Washington, DC, and Reagan National Airportare now closed until 7am EST Thursday due to the blizzard, according to the FAA. Airlines canceled hundreds of flights at airports on the Eastern seaboard. And schools in New York City are closed, only the third snow day in six years.
