Border Patrol Arrest Man Tied To Mexican Mafia

BLYTHE -A Mexican national with suspected ties to the Mexican Mafia was in U.S. Border Patrol custody today.

The 25-year-old man, whose name was unavailable, was arrested Monday in the parking lot of the Burger King on South Lovekin Boulevard in Blythe, said Border Patrol Agent Shaun Kuzia.

The man, who has drug, domestic violence and armed robbery convictions in the United States, was to Mexico on Jan. 6, Kuzia said.

The man claimed to be a member of the Sureno gang, which is part of the Mexican Mafia. The Mexican Mafia, run largely from within California prisons, is believed to have more than 100,000 members and is involved in extortion, drug and human trafficking, murder and other criminal activities.

He will be charged with illegal re-entry to the United States and be processed for deportation, according to Kuzia.
