Bike Vs. Van Accident Sends Two To Hospital

PALM SPRINGS – Palm Springs police are on the scene of an accident involving an airport transport vanand a bicyclist on Highway 111.

The accident happened shortly before noon at the intersection of Gateway, near the entrance to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The biker suffered major head injuries, has been transported to the Desert rRegional Medical Center.

The driver of the SuperShuttle van, who was also sent to the hospitalto be checked out,told a reporter that the bike made a sharp turn in front of the van, and he slammed on the brakes. Another car, aHonda Accord, crashed into the van. Everyone inside was ok.

Northbound Highway 111 was closed for the investigation, and Indian Canyon wasbacked up for several miles due to traffic being diverted around the accident scene.

Highway 111 re-opened by 4:30pm.
