Deadly Collision On Highway 74 In Pinyon Pines

PINYON PINES -Authorities today identified the two people killed in a car-motorcycle crash state Route 74.

William Kaplan, 62, of Rancho Mirage, who was riding a Harley-Davidson with his wife on the back, was headed east about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when a silver Toyota headed the opposite way veered off the shoulder, then spun out in the eastbound lane, according to CHP and a coroner’s investigator.

Both vehicles were believed to be going about 55 mph just before the collision.

Kaplan and 20-year-old woman riding in the Toyota were killed. She has now been identified as Celeste Lauren Streutker of Palm Desert.

Kaplan’s wife, 58, and the driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old man from La Quinta, were taken to hospitals and reported in serious condition, authorities said. Their names were withheld.
