Sink Hole Shuts Down Palm Desert Street
PALM DESERT – Authorities tell News Channel 3 that a large sink hole has shut down the eastbound and westbound lanes of Magnesia Falls between Portola and Monterey.
According to the water agency, a pipe leaked under the roadway at Magnesia Falls.They say it’s part of the natural aging of piping under roadway.
The water caused a huge crater in the road. Crews are working to repair the piping. They expect to have that completed sometime this evening.
Road repair crews cannot begin to repair the road until that process is completed, so noestimated timeon when the roadway will be fixed.
Right now no customers are affected, but traffic is being diverted away from this area.
Another alert: tomorrow two schools in that area may be affected. They are Lincoln Elementary and Palm DesertMiddle School, parents may want to be advised that there is a road closure there.
