Hillside Collapses, Closing Major Artery In Southern California

SAN DIMAS -The California Highway Patrol says a hillside has collapsed and closed a freeway transition road in San Dimas.

The hillside gave way around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

No damage or injuries are reported.

Tons of dirt and boulders are on the quarter-mile-long transition roadway between the northbound State Route 71 and the northbound State Route 57. The roadway has been closed and northbound traffic on the nearby freeways are backing up.

The slide area is near the Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park and a manmade lake.

San Dimas is about 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
