Demolition Derby Driver Recovering After Bad Crash

INDIO – A demolition derby driver is recovering after being rushed to the hospital following a frightening crash.

The crash happened at 3:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

According to witnesses, the driver attempted to hit another car during an exhibition at the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival. Instead, his car launched over the other car and flipped onto its roof.

The roof was caved in, so the driver could not get out of his car. Riverside County firefighters were already at the arena, so they immediately cut the driver out of the car and took him to a trauma center.

The driver was initially listed in critical condition.

At the arena later Sunday afternoon, a public address announcement said the driver asked from the hospital if his car was in condition to be driver, so he could enter the evening’s demolition derby.
