Driver Survives 30 Foot Plunge Off Highway 74

HEMET -A motorist who drove over the side of Highway 74 and plummeted more than 30 feet survived the crash with moderate injuries, authorities said today.

The cause of the accident — which was reported at 5:18 p.m. Sunday near Doe Canyon Road on a winding section of the highway heading up Mount San Jacinto — remained under investigation.

Rescue personnel freed the lone occupant from the vehicle and took the driver to a hospital with moderate injuries, said Jodie Gray of the Riverside County Fire Department.
