Firefighter Injured In Thousand Palms Fire

THOUSAND PALMS -A fire broke out in the attic of a home in Thousand Palms and injured a firefighter, a fire captain said today.

The fire was reported at 9:55 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 73000 block of El Portal, said Riverside County Fire Department Capt. Lonny Olson.

The heavy smoke and fire conditions made the blaze difficult to contain but firefighters were able to knock it down by 11 p.m. Sunday, Olson said.

The house suffered significant damage, and one firefighter suffered a minor leg injury and was transported to a local hospital, he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
