Toyota Trade-Ins Seldom Found On Car Lots

CATHEDRAL CITY – Concerns about Toyota’s safety issues are causing some Toyota owners to flat out get rid of their vehicles.

Right now a total of two used Toyota vehicles sit on the Palm Springs Motors lot in Cathedral City. There could be more, but with the safety of the vehicles in question these days, the dealer for the most part is sending Toyota trade-ins under recall to auction;reselling only those not affected by the recall.

Still,as soon as a Toyota is taken in trade, no matter what it’s future may be on thelot,Scott Simmers, the GeneralManager of Palm Springs Motors saysit has to be determined if the vehicle is safe to drive.

“Our procedure is as soon as we take in a Toyota product first thing we do is determine if the car was affected by the recall or not affected by the recall. If it’s affected we send it over to one of our local dealers. They perform the recall, the car comes back.”

The trade-in value on most Toyota’s has dropped about ten percent, but other automakers are offering incentives to make the switch. In some cases, they’ll give Toyota owners a thousand dollar trade-in allowance to help make up the difference.
