Washington Street Re-Opens After Deadly Collision

An Indio man and a Coachella woman died today when the sedan they were in was struck by a pickup truck in La Quinta, police reported.

A 24-year-old La Quinta man was driving the Dodge pickup truck south on Washington Street when it struck a Ford Focusnorth of Calle Tampico about 2 a.m., said Lt. Jason Huskey of the La Quinta Police Department.

The Ford driver, Erika Alonzo, 27, and her passenger, Eleuterio Valenzuela, 31, both died about 3 a.m. at different hospitals, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

The pickup driver was not seriously injured, according to Huskey.

The crash was under investigation.
