Sex Offender Arrested In Cathedral City; Deported To Mexico

A 42-year-old convicted sex offender arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol near Cathedral City was being processed for deportation, the federal agency reported today.

Reynaldo Quiroz-Maya was taken into custody on Saturday near his home in Cathedral City, said spokesman Victor Brabble.

Quiroz-Maya had been lawfully admitted into the country for permanent residency. But he was later convicted of two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 and sentenced to six years in prison, making him eligible for deportation, Brabble said.
