Fire Station Will Remain Closed Under Palm Springs Budget Plan

More than a dozen Palm Springs city workers have received pink slips, including workers from the City Clerk’s office, Building Planning, Street Maintenance and Public Works.

Meanwhile, budget cuts are also hitting the city’s fire department.

City leaders are trying to cut more than $7 million dollars from the budget. That’s why fire station number five off Bolero Road is now closed.

It’s currently being used for storage…

No one in the fire department has been laid-off, but six open positions will not be filled.

Firefighters who would normally staff the station are now working at other locations.

Residents are worried about response times.

Administrators say crews can cover most of the city within a five-minute response time, but response times for the area near station five could increase by two to three minutes.
