Madonna, The Next Simon Cowell?

Perez Hilton broke the story, but several other media outlets have followed suit, claiming the producers of Fox’s “American Idol” want Madonna to replace Simon Cowell on the judge’s panel.

Cowell is leaving the show after Wednesday’s finale, which you can see on KDFX Fox 11. He says he will start some new musical ventures on television.

Meantime, organizers like Executive Producer Simon Fuller have named Madonna at the top of their wishlist for the job.

The Sun Newspaper in London reports producers are talking about it.

“Everyone agrees Madge would be great and they want her as a full-time judge. But if that fails they’d at least like her as a mentor,” one of them told the Sun.

The paper goes on to say Fuller is said to be ‘desperate’ to hire the Celebration singer to join current judges Ellen DeGeneres, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi on America’s most notorious judging panel.

Some wonder if the “Material Girl” has enough time to dedicate to the show.

Already, producers have had to push production of next season back to September to give them time to find a replacement.
