Big-Rig Accident Causes Massive I-5 Backup

Two tractor trailer rigs crashed on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic, leaving fiery wreckage blocking lanes before the morning rush, but nobody was seriously hurt, the California Highway Patrol reported.

CHP Officer Jennifer Connolly said two people suffered minor injuries in the crash, which was reported at 6:05 a.m. on the southbound 5 near Ridge Route Road.

A SigAlert, which was initially in effect for three right lanes, was extended just before noon, according to Connolly, who said the lanes were expected to be reopened by 2 p.m.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
