Cathedral City Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident

A motorcyclist who died in a crash on westbound Interstate 10 in Banning was identified today as a Cathedral City man.

Jamie M. Dodge, 49, was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m. Sunday on the I- 10, west of Highland Springs Avenue, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.

Dodge was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when the traffic ahead of him stopped suddenly, said CHP Officer Scott Beauchene.

The rider tried to stop, but his bike began to skid toward a vehicle and he swerved to the right to avoid it. Dodge lost control of the bike, which fell onto its right side, throwing the rider face-first into the pavement, Beauchene said.

He was wearing a turtle shell-type helmet that had no facial protection, the officer said.
