Train Hits Semi-Truck Shutting Down Highway 111

Police re-opened Highway 111 just south of Mecca, after a train accident early Monday morning.

It happened at just before 5am near the intersection of Highway 111 and Toby Road.

A hazardous materials crew is on the scene where a train hit a semi-truck carrying car trailer.

Fortunately, the trailer was empty at the time, and no one was injured.

California Highway Patrol officers were able to clear the Highway 111 to traffic, but the train is still stuck on the tracks, and it could stay there for the rest of the week keeping Toby Road closed.

Railroad workers are trying to replace a crossing control box that was damaged in the accident, and that could take several days.
