Power Outage Hits Rancho Mirage And Cathedral City

Nearly 1,400 Southern California Edison customers lost power today when an underground cable failed, a spokeswoman said.

The outage was reported at 5:22 a.m. in an area bordered by Princeton Drive on the north, Clancy Lane on the south, Rancho Palmeras on the east and Creekside Drive on the west, said Edison spokeswoman Vanessa McGrady.

All but 183 of the customers had their power restored by noon, McGrady said, adding that the rest should get their electricity back by 4 p.m.

The cable failed near La Rhonda and Sunrise drives in the Sunrise Country Club, she said.
