Cathedral City Couple Recovers After House Fire

A Cathedral city couple recovered, today, after their home caught fire in a densely populated area of the city Monday evening, which spread to a home next-door.

Cal Fire said the home on El Dobe Road near San Eljay caught fire just after 5 p.m. Monday, and spread to a vacant foreclosed property next-door, which was up for sale.

Firefighters say the home where the fire started is a total loss.

Fighting the fire proved daunting for crews with Cal Fire and the Cathedral City Fire Department. Temperatures soared to 111-degrees when the call came out. Several firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion; some took refuge in running sprinklers in the neighborhood.
