Teen Arrested For Setting Fire In Palm Springs

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of starting a vegetation fire in Palm Springs, police said today.

The blaze was reported at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at Ramon and Crossley roads, said Sgt. Melissa Desmarais of the Palm Springs Police Department.

The flames blackened a 10-foot by 30-foot area before firefighters put it out. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported, Desmarais said.

At the scene, the 17-year-old boy was taken into custody on suspicion of arson and released to his parents, she said.

The boy, who was with another juvenile, allegedly admitted to officers that he started the fire, Palm Springs Fire Battalion Chief Mark Avner told a local newspaper.

The other boy told officers he did not want to be involved in starting the fire, the paper reported.
