Details Revealed In Monday’s Chain Reaction Crash

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol spelled out what happened on Interstate 10 Monday after a chain reaction accident sent eight people to the hospital.

The investigators say 72-year-old Nancy Knowles was driving eastbound on the interstate, and tried to change lanes into the far right lane. As she did, she realized there was already a car there, and swerved quickly to avoid a collision.

In doing so, the CHP said she swerved into the far left lane, and hit a car driven by 34-year-old Darin Carias. His car was driven into the center divider, went airborne, and landed in the westbound lanes of the interstate, colliding with three cars. Amazingly, Carias suffered no injuries.

As a result eight people were transported to hospitals with major to minor injuries.
