Alcohol Possible Factor In Indio Crash

A motorist crashed into an entrance to a gated community on the north edge of Indio, blocking access today to the 200-home Talavera development and leaving the driver critically injured.

The crash was reported at 11:47 p.m. Monday at the Talavera entrance on Jefferson St. at Ave. 38, Indio police Commander Ben Guitron said.

A gray Hyundai car crashed into the pillars and wall at the Talavera entrance, north of Shadow Hills Golf Club and Interstate 10, Guitron said.

There are two other ways in and out of the Talavera development that remain open, Guitron said. The damaged entrance will be blocked for a time today, and it is hoped that it will reopen by dawn, Guitron said.

The woman driving the Hyundai was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center where she was considered in critical condition, Guitron said

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Guitron said.
