Authorities Identify Driver Killed In Palm Springs Crash

The Riverside County Coroner identified the victim in a traffic collision on Tuesday as 73-year-old George Batsakes of Palm Springs.

Palm Springs police say he was driving a BMW around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday when he ran a red light at the intersection of Dinah Shore and Crossley in Palm Springs.

Investigators tell News Channel 3 Batsakes hit a Verizon utility truck going east on Dinah Shore, killing him.

Police and emergency crews shut down an area around the accident, and re-opened them at 3:45 p.m.

Access to all residential streets west of Cathedral Canyon was closed, and some area residents were asked to use alternate routes to access residential streets.
