Firefighters Save Palm Desert Shopping Center From Fire

Firefighters quickly put out a fire that sparked on the roof of a shopping center that was under construction early Wednesday morning, according to Riverside County fire officials.

The fire was reported at 12:11 a.m. at the intersection of El Paseo and San Pablo.

Firefighters contained the fire to the roof of a single-story shopping mall which was under construction, and prevented it from spreading to another building.

They blame construction equipment for causing the fire.

Investigators estimate losses at $20,000, but estimate they saved $7.5 million.
