X Games Draw Thousands To Southern California
The four-day X Games 16 begin today, including the first events at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since 2003.
The Coliseum will be the site of today’s moto X super X men’s, women’s and adaptive competitions, along with the moto X freestyle and skateboard big air finals.
On Saturday, the Coliseum will play host to the rally car race, and BMX freestyle big air, superrally and skateboard big air rail jam finals.
Today’s other events will be the BMX freestyle park elimination and skateboard street elimination at the Event Deck at L.A. Live.
Events will also be held at the Nokia Theatre Friday, Staples Center Friday and Sunday and the Event Deck at L.A. Live today through Sunday.
After being held in Rhode Island, San Diego, San Francisco and Philadelphia over their first eight years, the X Games have been held annually at various Los Angeles County venues since 2003.
“We have always been at the forefront of entertainment, arts and sports and the X Games are a perfect, innovative blend of all three — an extreme action sports competition that allows daring athletes to showcase their talents in one of the most entertaining arenas in the world,” Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.
