Indio Intersection Shuts Down Beginning Monday

Miles Avenue at Clinton Street in Indio will close starting Monday morning, according to Riverside County authorities, and stay closed through August 16.

Detours will lead motorists along temporary routes:

Miles Avenue, eastbound: south on Madison Street, east on Avenue 46, north on Clinton Street.

Miles Avenue, westbound: south on Clinton Street, west on Avenue 46, north on Madison Street.

Clinton Street will remain open in both directions of travel during the intersection closure.

After Aug. 16, construction work will continue but Miles Avenue will reopen.

The construction is part of a $2.9 million project to widen Clinton Street to two lanes of traffic in each direction from Fred Waring Drive to Miles Avenue.

Other improvements include new curbs, sidewalks, gutters and storm drain system. Weekday work hours are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To expedite the project, some roadwork may be done on Sundays.

No street closures are expected, but traffic may be reduced to one lane of traffic during construction. The roadways will reopen on Aug. 30, but road work will continue through the fall.
