Interstate 10 Back Open After Overturned Truck Spilled Diesel, Soda

The driver of a big rig that tipped over on eastbound Interstate 10 in Coachella was arrested today on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Jose Luis Lemus, 44, was taken into custody about 1:15 a.m. and booked on suspicion of drunken driving at the Indio Jail. He posted $2,500 bail and was released, according to jail records.

The tractor trailer tipped over onto its side around midnight, blocking eastbound lanes of traffic, said California Highway Patrol Officer John Quintero.

A hazardous materials team was sent to clean up 22 pallets of soda and some diesel fuel that spilled, Quintero said.

Motorists were using the shoulder and part of the slow lane to get around the mess, according to the CHP.

All lanes have been re-opened.
