Power Outage And Surge Hits Palm Springs

In Palm Springs, 437 customers, including a portion of downtown, lost electrical power for about an hour on Thursday evening.

All of the vendors at Village Fest were without power, prompting concerns that the event might be shut down for the evening. Power was restored before that needed to happen.

The outage began about 5:05 p.m. and was restored to almost half of the customers just after 6 p.m., said electric provider Southern California Edison.

The remaining 227 had power restored at 8:06 pm. Residents in the Coachella valley reported a power spike just after 5 pm causing some computers to reset themselves.

The outage is being blamed on a sub station in Cabazon belonging to Arrowhead Water. That station had a failure that affected transmission lines in the Coachella Valley.
