Dick Kelly Remembered

Friends and family are remembering long time Palm Desert City Councilman Dick Kelly.

On Saturday, a memorial service was held for Kelly at the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church.

Kelly died last month after a battle with cancer.

He was elected to city council in 1982. He served as Mayor for six terms.

Kelly was also one of the driving forces behind the development of the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert.

Sarah Rasmussen remembered Kelly by saying, “I think he did a lot of good he helped the Sunline bus line in getting access to the freeway.”

Karen Spiege, the Mayor of Corona, said, “He added such knowledge with humor. He added compassion. He was just truly a role model.”

Palm Desert city leaders are still in the process of filling Kelly’s seat on the council. Kelly’s wife Mary Helen has offered to serve out his term.
